Amsterdam International Water Week

The Amsterdam International Water Week (AIWW) is a global movement towards a sustainable water environment. This biennial event gathers experts from cities, industries, and utilities from all over the world to combine real-life water cases with innovative solutions. And so creating a circular and resilient water environment in high-density living areas. In 2017 we hosted the fourth edition of this event and we are looking forward to the next edition (our fifth anniversary) in 2019.

Amsterdam International Water Week 2017 built on the momentum gained in the first three biennial AIWWs. It provided a platform to help achieve global progress on water issues. It reached a new benchmark in terms of participation and initiated actions that pave the way for even greater impact around the next AIWW. Download the facts & figures of AIWW 2017.

AIWW 2017 focused on the goal of a circular and resilient water future. This is a goal that responds to the needs and challenges faced by a growing global population – a point captured by the ‘Water… and nine billion people’ theme of the 2017 AIWW Conference. It is also a goal that reflects opportunities to work in new ways and to provide new solutions. The AIWW 2017 programme consisted off: AIWW Conference, Aquatech Trade Exhibition, Sarphati Sanitation Awards, AIWW Leadership programme, excursions, side-events and a public event.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management are supporters of the AIWW, through the Partners for Water programme. Various loyal sponsors active in the water sector also committed themselves to this event making it a public-private collaboration.

Amsterdam Agreements - achieving real breakthroughs

The AIWW conference 2017 resulted in the signing of nine Amsterdam Agreements. The agreements express the intention of many leading companies, institutes and authorities in the water sector to jointly collaborate on a wide range of challenging issues on the global water agenda.

Changing the way we look at our water-related risks - finding new approaches - is something that cannot be achieved overnight. Case owners, experts, suppliers, and investors signing an Amsterdam Agreement, pledge to continue their work in the coming years until they have reached their goals, in order to achieve real breakthroughs. Signatories will report back on their progress during the Amsterdam International Water Week 2019.
