AIWW conference preview: Water Efficiency and Value

AIWW 2017 has identified the four main water challenges facing the cities, utilities and industries of tomorrow. These challenges are linked to concrete examples in all case sessions and solution workshops during the conference. The themes are:

  • Water management and Resilience
  • Institutional transition and Governance
  • Innovative water system implementation
  • Featured: Water Efficiency and Value

Water can be turned into a major value driver in almost any process with the extraction of raw materials. Aggregation of local organic waste water flows will create vibrant local markets for fertilizer components. Water treatment, retention, cooling, biodiversity, and energy neutral cities become value drivers. An integrated value chain approach is needed, including attention to the water footprint and water stewardship. Furthermore, attention is needed for finance strategies and implementation for these new (resilient) business models in a blue economy, with further focus on bankability, viable investments, and asset management.

Finance cases and solutions will shed light on upcoming innovative financing tools that respond to new business cases and approaches for (sustainable) water projects. Next to that, we will be unpacking the exact challenges and opportunities for investors to engage in financing the big water actors and their projects.
