AIWW conference preview: Water management and resilience

AIWW 2017 has identified the four main water challenges facing the cities, utilities and industries of tomorrow. These challenges are linked to concrete examples in all case sessions and solution workshops during the conference. The themes are:

  • Water Efficiency and Value
  • Institutional transition and Governance
  • Innovative water system implementation
  • Featured: Water management and Resilience

Water management and resilience play a crucial role in climate change adaptation. Cities, industries and utilities are essential in developing and realizing water and climate resiliency. The variety in measures that can be taken is huge: from coping with extreme rainfall, to adjusting to extreme droughts globally. Cities need to adapt to climate change with infrastructure transitions – especially those in critical delta areas. Industries, as well as utilities, also play an important role in resiliency by adapting new and integrated strategies. We should aim to take measures that increase climate resiliency while maintaining a rich habitat, built on infrastructure for biodiversity, intelligent water allocation, sustainable ecological structures and resilient flood protection.
